This subject is so broad that there are endless resources available to you to explore. Essential oils have been used for centuries and there is a lot of information about them on the Internet. In fact, there is so much information about essential oils that it can actually make your head spin! In this article, I will give you a brief overview of essential oil research, which includes some interesting facts about their properties and applications. To start off, there are two families of these essential oils: floral and aromatic. These are separated by the type of plant that produces each type. For example, floral oils are produced by flowers such as roses, jasmine, orchids, and lily. Aromatic oils come from plants such as rose, lavender, eucalyptus, and juniper. One of the most exciting facts about essential oils is that one of them, citronella oil, is an insect repellent! The name comes from the smell that the oil gives off - citronella! It is a strong-smelling oil that has been around since the days of the Ancient Egyptians. The very first essential oils were extracted from plants that were naturally repellents such as lemon or orange. Now that we have a brief overview, let us take a look at some of the more interesting facts about essential oils. Many essential oils have antiseptic and antibacterial properties that make them useful in the treatment of cuts, burns, cold sores, headaches, nausea, stomachaches, insomnia, asthma, irritability, blisters, and insect bites. Some people even believe that essential oils can alleviate some of the symptoms associated with depression, high blood pressure, and even cancer. There are certain essential oils that act as mood lifters, others that increase concentration, and still others that are considered aphrodisiacs! Some of the most potent essential oils include basil, clove, lemon, lavender, rose, and eucalyptus. The essential oil research that I have personally participated in, using a blend of two of my favorite essential oils, seems to bear out some interesting facts. Lemon is known to be an aphrodisiac for women, and it also seems to intensify the desire for lovemaking. In my research, rose oil has been found to increase a person's sex drive, whereas citronella oil can be used both for mosquito repelling and as a natural mosquito repellent. See page for more enlightenment on this topic. As you can see, there are many ways that essential oil can be used therapeutically. If you decide to partake in some oil research yourself, there are many excellent books available on the subject that will help you understand the science behind each specific essential oil. You can also join a forum on essential oil research in your area or online. There are many forums where people just like you gather together to share their experiences and knowledge about the healing properties of different oils.
